Recipe: Winter smoothie

I’m really pleased with this one! I decided to make a smoothie especially for winter – for enjoying after a chilly run; as a mid-afternoon pick-me-up; or just for the appley, tangy, gingery joy of it. Drink cold, straight from the blender, or heat gently in a pan for a wintery drink that will really warm the cockles. This recipe yields one large serving.

I used mixed frozen berries, which made my smoothie a gorgeous shade of pink, but you could try a combination of frozen winter berries (redcurrants, blackcurrants, blackberries if they’re available) and seasonal fruit such as pear, persimmon, or even clementine.

Recipe: Winter smoothie


Ingredients

  • 300ml good apple juice (I used Copella)
  • 50g frozen or fresh berries of your choice
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger, or finely grated fresh root ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Optional: 1 tsp maca powder; a grating of orange zest.

Directions

– Simply whack all the ingredients in a blender or Nutribullet and blend until well combined. Drink and enjoy.
